  1. On the Road or On Foot

B&W work from the 60's through the 90's

Scanned prints of my black and white photos from the 70's through the early 80'sm then a few from the 90's (a couple of fans busted me on dates :-) ). Mostly New York, some Chicago, a few elsewhere.

As of August, 2012 I sorted the "exhibit" such that the first 24 photos are New York on the Lower East Side aka the East Village.

The first two rows (12 pics in case you are not seeing rows of 6 images across) are the ones in the new BACK IN THE DAY calendar - all those were taken in the 70's. It is for sale on line either on cafe press or at this site (better reproductions and size options) - https://www.createphotocalendars.com/Shop/annsanfedelecalendarsandbooks

St. Marks Movie Theatre

"Now Showing" St. Marks Movie theater on 2nd ave between St. Marks Place and 9th St. Late October, 1978. The theatre closed in 1985. The St Marks Playhouse was next door and upstairs - where the Negro Ensemble Company was holding a theatre playhouse. The last play performed there was in 1980. You'll find this photo on page 212 of Ada Calhoun's book, St. Marks is Dead

  • September, 1977. Buildings on First Avenue from a rooftop between St. Marks and Seventh street. Incidentally, the building to left housed the wonderful Ukrainian meat market, Kurowycky's, which closed it's doors for good in June, 2007, after 52 years, which was a great disappointment to local omnivores. These buildings are on the east side of First Avenue just above Seventh street.
  • 7th st at 2nd Ave - July, 1978
  • The day of the blackout in 1977, and the demise of the Kosher poultry place. The odd harsh light here is not natural - I'm recalling that there was a flatbed or something like it with large floods on it to illuminate first avenue (off the frame to the left) That did happen at one point because there had been a lot of looting - although I confess this might have just been early morning sun and my contrasty developing.
