Road Trip USA New for 2014
This is a reworking of my 48 State puzzle calendar - with the puzzle element removed. It seems only the true US geo buffs got enthused about the original - most wanted the nice views without having to figure out where
I took them or the "road less taken" that the map on the front illustrates. The whole thing was inspired by a puzzle I heard on CAR TALK last year. But in that puzzle the starting point was Delaware. The final destination of Maine
was the same. The challenge for the listener was basically how to drive around the country visiting every state only once and end up in the one state that had to be either at the very beginning or the end because it only has
one border with an adjoining state.
Read MoreThe photos are shown on the cover over the states where they were taken but no precise locations. The pages of the calendar are in correct traveling order, but within each page you need to look at the map to see the specific order. The photos have clues in them and the route is laid out on the cover. Hope this is enjoyable visually and that it stimulates and interest in USA geography among those whose grade school education neglected the reading of maps and an appreciation of the great variety of things to be seen across the country. In your photographer's youth, recognizing a state by its shape and location on the map was required learning, along with state capitals, major cities, rivers, etc. I loved it.
